October in San Diego means it’s time for the BLUE ANGELS at the MIRAMAR AIR SHOW! The theme for this year's air show is "A Salute to Marine Corps Aviation" and will focus on the magnificent men and women who are the heart and soul of Marine Aviation. The world-famous Blue Angels will take to the skies once again to win the hearts of everyone watching with their elite, precise, fast flying!
Watch the Blue Angels in action in this video, all shot from a parking lot near the Miramar base.
The F/A-18 Hornets used can hit speeds of 1,200 miles per hour (Mach 1.7+). Angels pilots hold their Hornets in formations just inches apart while performing complex maneuvers. The Blue Angels serve as positive role models and goodwill ambassadors for the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps.
Other military and civilian aircraft including the AV-8B Harrier, F/A-18 Hornet, the F-16 Fighting Falcon, and the F-22 Raptor. There will be many amazing acrobatic aerial performers, including the legendary Sean Tucker. These military and civilian aviators will thoroughly entertain you and your kids with their unmatched aviation skills. Plus the flight line will be full with static displays (airplanes, helicopters and more), military equipment exhibits, air show memorabilia, and plenty of refreshments.
When you’re at the air show, be sure to say thank you to the military personnel for their tremendous service to our country. These men and women who have given the ultimate sacrifice to preserve our freedom are American Heroes!
If you’re able to, enjoy the Air Show on Friday when it’s less crowded. We went last year for the first time with our jet-loving 3 year old and sat in the free blanket seating area. You can see everything clearly. Bring hats and sunscreen, water and snacks, and earplugs!

Not really. Also, due to heavy Air Show traffic, taxi fares could be extremely expensive.
How do I know where to park? Is there a shuttle?
When you arrive at MCAS Miramar, security personnel will direct you to available parking lots. A free base shuttle bus will be available.
