Another beautiful San Diego beach is La Jolla. In Spanish, La Jolla means "The Jewel" and it is exactly that. La Jolla is located 15 minutes north of downtown San Diego. La Jolla is ideal for packing a picnic, walking, taking pictures and spotting seals and sea lions. I don't really like to swim in the ocean here. It's suprisingly dirty thanks to--guess who?-- those cute sea lions. Better to just look at them than to swim with them! Plus there are strong rip currents and rocky shores. Still, La Jolla Beach is unparalleled in beauty and worth the visit for your family. Plus, there is lots of free parking. Just be patient during summer days when the beach is especially crowded.
