San Diego Beaches

No vacation is complete without a trip to the sand and shore!

Coronado Beach

San Diego Beaches...whether you want to build sandcastles, play beach volleyball, or stroll while the sun sets, San Diego has the right beach for your family.

From La Jolla to Coronado, Point Loma to Mission Beach, you'll find miles and miles of the Pacific's most scenic shorelines.

Here's my husband and son enjoying the Coronado Central Beach at sunset.

Watch the video below to see why our all-time favorite San Diego beach is the beautiful Coronado Central Beach (also called Coronado Municipal Beach).

Coronado Beach runs along Ocean Boulevard with a back drop of the most gorgeous, charming and expensive homes you may ever see. There are tidepools in front of the picture perfect Hotel del Coronado. If you're interested in fire rings, they are on the north end, but be ready to stake your spot out hours in advance. If your kids like dogs, there's a dog run at the north end also by the fire rings.

Another beautiful San Diego beach is La Jolla. In Spanish, La Jolla means "The Jewel" and it is exactly that. La Jolla is located 15 minutes north of downtown San Diego. La Jolla is ideal for packing a picnic, walking, taking pictures and spotting seals and sea lions.

I don't really like to swim in the ocean here. It's pretty dirty because of those cute sea lions. Better to just look at them than to swim with them! Plus there are strong rip currents and rocky shores. But La Jolla is unparalleled in beauty and worth the visit for your family.

As you can see, it's another beautiful day in La Jolla. Lots of free parking here but you have to be patient during summer days when the beach is especially crowded.

Now after spending time at the beach, you have to deal with all that sticky sand all over your kid's hands and feet. Check out this neat tip I learned from a friend about getting the sand off easily without showering...
