Nov 7, Day Out With Thomas

Do you have a kid who loves Thomas the Train? When our son was 2, we went to ride on Thomas the train at the Orange Empire Railway Museum in Perris. It's about 90 minutes to drive there (north of Temecula). It's well worth it if your child loves Thomas.

There are many Thomas related activities and of course, the big thing is to ride Thomas the train. While you're on the train, you can't tell it's Thomas. But when the train pulls up and you see his big blue face, that's a picture perfect moment for your child!

Thomas is at the station on Nov 7, 8, 11, 14 and 15. For more info, go to www.oerm.org For discount tickets, go to www.ticketweb.com/dowt and enter the promotional code DOWT2009

Attention race fans! The Red Bull Air Race World Championships is coming to San Diego, the only US destination this year on the tour!

You'll hear them buzzing over San Diego Bay on Saturday and Sunday, May 9 and 10. There will be two main ticketed viewing areas - in the Embarcadero Marina Park North and Embarcadero Marina South. Visit www.redbullairrace.com for ticket info.

We went last year in free sections in Seaport Village. We didn't see a whole lot, although it was exciting to see a little bit. But I understand to get the full effect, the tickets are well worth it but they're very expensive ($100 plus).

The pilots can push their planes to 250 miles per hour, withstanding forces of up to 12 Gs.

The races take place over San Diego Bay and the propeller airplanes fly through a slalom course marked by giant pylons.

The MTS Trolley is the easiest way to access the event. There will be trolley service running from Qualcomm Stadium via Mission Valley, Old Town and the Santa Fe Depot.

If you've been to Legoland, you're probably wondering what is really inside that Sea Life Aquarium and if it's worth it to go.

I just found out that as a Legoland passport holder (either a yearly or 3 month membership), you can get in for just $5 on the days that Legoland is closed. Keep in mind the regular price for adults is $18.95.

Plus parking is free on the days Legoland is closed (Tuesdays and Wednesdays). It's a sweet deal that's been extended to March. Head on over if you have a year or 3 month Legoland passport - it's totally worth it!

Coming soon on my site - videos from Sea Life Aquarium. It was definitely worth the $5 but I'm not sure about $18.95...

Jan 22, Kids Eat Free at Islands on Tuesday nights

Islands Restaurant has a great deal every Tuesday night. Kids eat free!

We went last week to the Islands in Eastlake and it was very quiet. Now's a great time to go. In the summer months, that place is packed!

The kids got free meals (cheeseburger, fries and a drink). For the adults, when you order a burger or wrap, it comes with bottomless fries. So it's a pretty good deal even though it's really fattening (but mmm, very delicious!). Islands has great salads, hamburgers, tacos, wraps, and burgers with chicken breast.

Adults can substitute a salad, steamed veggies or onion rings for the fries, but those aren't bottomless.

Whenever you don't know what to cook on Tuesdays, head over to Islands with your kids for free meals for them!

Jan 12, San Diego Restaurant Week January 11-16

For one week, San Diego's best restaurants offer a 3 course dinner for $20, $30 or $40. There are over 150 restaurants to choose from downtown to La Jolla, Coronado to Pacific Beach.

Now's your chance to try a new restaurant at a unbeatable price. Now, you'll be getting a lot of food (appetizer, entree and dessert) so I suggest you take some home and enjoy it for one more meal. Now only will that add value, it'll be easier on your waistline!

Last year, we tried Kemo Sabe (3958 Fifth Ave, San Diego) and I highly recommend it! Wow! Choose the "Roasted Nut Crusted Fried Brie" for your appetizer and you'll be emailing me to say thank you! The dessert, the Potted Brownie (hot caramel and kahlua ice cream) was also very good.

You can search restaurants alphabetically, by region, or by price. Most restaurants put the menu online so you can pick the entree that sounds the most appetizing to you. There are usually 3 choices for each category (appetizer, entree, dessert).

Dec 16, Monday's Milkshake Deal at Chick-fil-a

Monday is the day to go to Chick-fil-a for a milkshake!

On milkshake Monday, you receive a free 8 pack of chicken nuggets to enjoy, every time you buy a milkshake.

So today, I spent $3.29 for a Peppermint Milkshake and I received the nuggets which are worth $2.99. So that helped me feel not so guilty about the shake, because basically I'm getting it for .30 right?

I make the indulgence gladly this month because Chick-fil-a's Peppermint Milkshake is one of my favorite Christmas treats! A huge thumbs up! If you like peppermint ice cream, you'll love this milkshake!
