San Diego Wild Animal Park Restaurants

Custom Search
African food is not exactly mainstream dining fare, so you won’t really find authentic meals in the San Diego Wild Animal Park. But that’s probably just as well with your kids! What you will find are restaurants serving the always popular sandwich, hamburger, hot dog, salad, and more throughout the Park.

Like the Zoo, it’s expensive to eat at the Wild Animal Park so I would suggest bringing your own lunch. You can bring your own food and drinks into the Park which is great, so take advantage of that and save! Stop by the grocery store and pick up sandwiches from the deli, a bag of chips, fruit and bottled water and you’ll be all set. At the grocery store Ralph’s, you can get a kid’s meal for under $3. Or stop by Subway or another fast food restaurant that would keep well in a backpack. Keep in mind drinking fountains are very hard to find, so bring plenty of water. You will need it!

If you eat in the Park, most of your choices will be in or near Nairobi Village:

Nairobi Village Congo Kitchen: If you walk in the Park absolutely starving, your first opportunity to eat will be the Congo Kitchen, located across the main gift shop. Hot dogs, nachos, and Kid's Meals are available. If you or your kids aren’t too hungry, keep walking for better options.

Thorntree Terrace: You’ll find sandwiches, salads, and burgers plus daily entertainment by the nearby animal inhabitants of Spider Monkey Island. Breakfast is served until 10:30 a.m. Located in Nairobi Village.

Mombasa Island Cooker: Our family enjoys the scenery in this outdoor dining facility covered with a thatched roof. It feels more secluded and you’ll be surrounded by exotic birds (and a few occasional ducks!). The Cooker serves Italian and Asian dishes, plus salads and burgers. Located on the south end of Nairobi Village.

Samburu Terrace: Keep walking south from the Mombasa Pavilion, and you’ll see Samburu Terrace, located just below the popular Bird Show amphitheater. You’ll find Mexican food in addition to burgers, hot dogs, fries, chicken sandwiches, barbecue ribs, and tri-tip sandwiches.

Okavango Outpost Okavango Outpost: If you trek down to the Heart of Africa exhibit on the south side of the Park, you will deserve a treat! Visit this restaurant in the Heart of Africa for hot dogs, deli sandwiches, salads, and kid's Meals. Put your feet up, dine outdoors and take in the spectacular scenery.
