San Diego Wild Animal Park Tips
Of all the tips I could give you to enjoy San Diego's Wild Animal Park, this one is the most important: You must wear comfortable walking shoes. Leave your flimsy flip flops or high heeled sandals at the hotel. Come in your most comfortable shoes because you will be walking, walking, walking. (Did I say you’ll be walking?)
My husband and I consider ourselves healthy. We go to the gym 2-3 times a week. But pushing a stroller through the hilly, vast Park, or carrying toddlers on our shoulders is something else. If you want to see the edges of the Park on foot, get ready for a physical day. And if you go in the summertime, get ready for some serious heat. When they say it’s a simulation of Africa, they aren’t fooling around!
But have no fear! You can see the entire Park in comfort on the
Journey into Africa tour.
Parking unfortunately is not free. Parking is $6 per car. But if it makes you feel any better, the proceeds go to the conservation of animals.
Rentals for strollers, lockers and motorized wheelchairs are available for rent on a first-come, first-served basis near the entrance.
Strollers $9 Double Strollers $14 Wheelchairs $10 Electric Scooters $35 (membership number or state ID card number required)
ATM machines are located at the front entrance just before the entrance turnstiles, in the Administration Building, outside Mombasa Island Market, and in the Heart of Africa near Okavango Outpost. Got that? Yeah, probably not. Just remember the front entrance location and get a map upon your arrival.
First aid and lost and found are located in the Administration Building.
