The Reuben E. Fleet Science Center

San Diego's premier museum for your
young scientist!

Fleet Science Center

Whether or not your child is a science buff, he will love visiting the Fleet Science Center in San Diego's beautiful Balboa Park.

And the first Tuesday of every month, admission to the Science Center is absolutely free! That doesn't include IMAX films, but does include the exhibits and Kid City.

This unique museum has Southern California’s only IMAX Dome Theater plus more than 100 hands-on science exhibits for all ages. Your kids can watch giant-screen films about amazing locations, people groups or experiences. If you’ve never seen an IMAX film, it’s a must for your older children so they can literally feel the thrill of being transported to a totally different place in space or on the earth.

Inside the exhibit hall of the Fleet Science Center The hands-on exhibits inspire curiosity and spark imagination. The museum is a great field trip for students of all ages. You don’t have to be a science buff to have a great time, but of course, the science buffs may have more fun!

Kid City

For your younger kids (infants through age six), there’s ever popular “Kid City.” It’s a colorful friendly town where you kids can go grocery shopping, work in a factory, play instruments, use the computers and much more. There are even parking spots for your strollers. This is a great place for moms to catch up with each other while their children are playing.

Here are my kids enjoying their first "job" at the conveyor belt. Now if I could only get them to EAT those vegetables!

Experimenting with shapes Of course you can find treats and also healthy eats at Galileo’s Café. It’s a really nice place to eat outside and enjoy the beauty of Balboa Park. The Science Store has unique educational toys and games, books, IMAX DVDs and more.

On the first Wednesday of each month, there’s a live planetarium show called “The Sky Tonight.” It’s led by a professional astronomer and perfect for star-gazing child. Weather and operational requirements permitting, the San Diego Astronomy Association provides free telescope viewing outdoors following the planetarium show.
