Your Perfect Downtown Stop for the Family

Custom Search

Enjoying the view at Seaport Village

Seaport Village is all about location, location, location! Situated in downtown San Diego on West Harbor Drive and Pacific Highway, it's a perfect stop for walking, shopping and eating. Beautiful views, cobblestone pathways, ponds with ducks, fountains and lush landscaping…your kids will love walking, shopping and sightseeing here.

Here's a short video about why we love Seaport Village. We actually entered it into a Seaport Village contest and won a free night stay at the Manchester Hyatt. Thank you to Seaport Village's blog!

Seaport Village conveniently connects with the Convention Center, Marriott Hotel, Manchester Grand Hyatt and Midway Museum.

The Village Hat Shop This 14 acre waterfront shopping complex includes:

-54 specialty shops

-13 casual dining places

-4 fine dining waterfront restaurants

-Plus a historic carousel your kids will love

Shops

Shopping at Apple Box One of our favorite shops is the Apple Box toy store which specializes in personalized wooden toys. If you’re interested in having something made with your child’s name on it, there’s plenty to choose from. To give you an example of price, a wooden train is $20 plus $5 to personalize it with your child’s name. A few Christmases ago, we received a wooden puzzle with my son’s name on it. He still loves to play with it and it helped him learn to spell his name.

At the Carousel Music Box Company Another neat store is the Carousel Music Box Company. As you can imagine, this is a “look, but please don’t touch” kind of store. It’s fun for kids of all ages to see these magical scenes brought to life in miniature.

At Del Sol, your kids can watch t-shirts and other items turn different colors when exposed to the sun. If someone in your family has a taste bud for hot sauce, you can stop by Hot Licks to see what fire-breathing, kickin’ sauce you can purchase.

Kite Flite Kite Flite is also a favorite with colorful kites flying in the breeze in front of the store.

Wyland Galleries offer a fun way for your kids to see “Shamu” in a different way, with huge whales suspended up above and beautiful artwork of various sea animals like killer whales, grey whales and dolphins.

Entertainment

Not only is there shopping, there’s free entertainment on many days in the afternoons between 1-4 pm. As you stroll around, you might hear a jazz band, steel drums or see Polynesian dancers. Caricaturists, face painters, balloon sculptors, and oriental brush artists are often working at Seaport Village as well.

Enjoying the carousel at Seaport Village And don’t forget to take your kids on the Looff Carousel. This carousel may be old (it was originally placed in Texas in 1895), but it’s fast! It starts off slowly and ends slowly too, but in the middle, you’ll get some speed! The carousel is beautifully carved, with horses, elephants, giraffes and other animals to delight your kids. But stick to the horses if you want to move; just the white horses go up and down in this carousel. The $2 fee per ride is well worth it.
