Parades, Turkey Trots and More in San Diego

Holiday Skating
We won’t get snow in San Diego, but you can welcome the Christmas season by ice skating at the following outdoor rinks:

64th Annual Mother Goose Parade
Always the Sunday before Thanksgiving, 10:00 am in El Cajon
Free
Start the holiday season with this fun parade of decorated floats, marching bands, equestrians, clowns and even an Air Force Fighter jet flyover. And Santa will be there too!
Pre-show concert starts at 9:30 am. Parade starts at Magnolia Ave and Main St., and ends at Madison Avenue. www.mothergooseparade.org
O’side Turkey Trot and Pier to Pier Run
Thanksgiving Day, registration opens at 6:15 am.
This annual 5K walk/run offers a 5K run/walk for adults and also a Pier-to-Pier Kids’ Race. The race starts at Oceanside Civic Center, 330 N. Coast Hwy., and ends at the Oceanside Pier. Call 760-434-7706 for more information.
Thanksgiving Dixieland Jazz Festival
November 23-27, 2011

Father Joe’s Thanksgiving Day 5K Run/Walk
Thanksgiving Day at 8:00 AM
Balboa Park, starting at the Museum of Man, ending beyond the Balboa Fountain
$15-30, Kids 5 and under are free

Bring your family for a fun morning of fitness in beautiful Balboa Park. After this 2.5 mile run/walk, head to the Spreckels Organ Pavilion for breakfast, a free concert, pie samples and more. So much for burning off those calories! When we participated, it rained! It poured! But as you can see, it was still fun. Sponsored by Father Joe's Villages and St. Vincent de Paul Village.
